Personally last weekend was a good one in terms of betting, however if Massini's Maguire had another yard to race, we would have had an even better day. Still it was beaten a nose & this is a horse to perhaps now consider for Cheltenham as it finishes strongly & i personally think its best distance is around the 2m 5f mark & not 3 miles.
Chief Yeoman finally won a race & paid out on a nice price however Ballydub still managed to frank some of the form for this season by finishing a gallant 2nd. Celestial halo & Osana now go for the Champion Hurdle both in good heart after thier race, i still think Binocular is too skinny a price & i will be still be looking for perhaps one of these 2 to win the race.  I liked the way Kalahari King won on Sunday as it only just seems to be doing enough at the end to win & i wonder if the Arkle will suit it but i cant wait for the race.

My old adage is that you only have a chance at the festival in March if you have some course form so dont dismiss anything from yesterdays card. Some of those horses would have been "taking a look" before the big races in March. I was really pleased we got on Big Bucks ante post EW at 14's before yesterdays cleeve hurdle which it won well, although the 8lb pull from Punchestowns was the key & BB will need to improve again come the big race. Most hacks are now saying Kasbah Bliss only has to turn up to win the World Hurdle however as we havent seen it out for so long, i would reserve judgement.

Joe Lively outstayed the "stayer" Halcon Generlardais but i was suprised to see Choc Thornton trying to keep Halcon up with the pace & maybe that cost it in the long run. I would still take Tidal bay out of the race as it ran well to finish 3rd & could now be aimed at the RyanAir chase over the shorter distance? It will also prefer slightly better going which it should get next time.
Diamond Harry won but had to be shaken up a bit, the 1st 2 were a long way in front & maybe are both fairy decent & should keep an eye on both (Bensalem).
I was impressed again at the performance of Walkon who now has a great chance at the Triumph hurdle. The 1st 2 home in the handicap hurdle race Presenting Copper & Awesome George could again be back for the festival & should be noted as they clearly have a liking for this track.

Some important races run in Ireland over the last few days with Schindlers Hunt returning to form to beat a reasonable field over 2m 5f on Good to soft conditions. Fingeronthepulse look well handicapped but was never going to catch the winner.
The overnight weight rise assisted the bottom weight Pennys Boy to spring a 50/1 suprise, our selection Psycho just failed by a head to win the race at odds of 6/1. Will it win at Cheltenham is now the question, lets see what weight it gets first.
Talking horse Zaarito won as it should have yesterday at Punchestown at odds of 1/3 however will still be an interesting contender come Cheltenham but still may need another hurdle race beforehand.

Again, we have a Cheltenham meeting where course form plays a big part, previous course winners Stan, Calgary Bay & Lough Derg all won again on a track that suits thier style.
3 horses ran today on ground they would not like, My Petra, Three Mirrors & Noir Et Vert & i expect they will be much better in the spring on decent good jumping ground. The last 2 are trained by Ferdy Murphy.
Ballydub looked to be the winner when it fell 2 out in the 3m hurdle race won by Big Buck's & if none the worse can still pick up a prize this season.

Feeling fairly silly after missing Punchestown's in favour of Pettifour especially as we noted it in the Cheltenham write up back in November to follow.

Plenty of good horses ran yesterday with Binocular winning as expected & now as short as 6/4 for the Champion Hurdle. Might have a look at Sizing Europe to oppose come March if the horse stays fit. it is now a bit of value at around the 8/1 mark with most bookies.
